Mobile application is nowadays an often used expression. The actual meaning is however interpreted in several ways. The most usual interpretation is that a mobile application is every application which can be used outside the office.
In this way also internet applications (usable at any place with an internet access) would belong to the category. Such a division is not incorrect.
For our purposes let's focus on applications for small PDA devices and mobile phones. For such devices we can program in a similar ways as for normal PCs.
There are of course some limitation regarding to optimization for smaller screen and less memory. This technological issues are the main reason why we present mobile application separately and why their still not a standard.
Another specific criterion is a different ergonomics of such applications.
